Set out on a captivating 5-day fully guided, self-supported sea kayaking expedition into the pristine Nuchatlitz Islands of Nuchatlitz Provincial Park, on the remote outer west coast of Vancouver Island at the northwest tip of Nootka Island. Participants bring all their own kayaking equipment, camping gear, and food.
Set in early July, you will glide through turquoise lagoons and crystal-clear bays, weave between a maze of emerald islets, reefs, and sheltered coves, and camp on white-sand and shell beaches—framed by ancient cedar forests and windswept trees. Possibility to encounter large rafts of playful sea otters, sea lions, black bears foraging along the shore, seals, and a dazzling array of intertidal life in one of Canada’s most remote and beloved marine wilderness archipelagos.
This wild northwest coast setting offers protected waters among the island groups alongside opportunities for more exposed paddling past sea stacks, arches, and caves, with campsites on scenic beaches amid old-growth forest and ocean views. The area is especially renowned as a thriving haven for sea otters (a recovery success story) and supports rich marine and intertidal ecosystems, including opportunities for whale sightings and tide-pool exploration.
Access is by water taxi from nearby Tahsis, placing you deep in this secluded island paradise for multi-day exploration.
