Before you head out paddling for the first time, make sure you have all of the following items required by Transport Canada:
- Personal Floatation Device
- a buoyant heaving line of not less than 15 m in length
- a bailer; (b) a manual bilge pump; or (c) bilge-pumping arrangements
- (a) a sound-signalling appliance that meets the requirements of the Collision Regulations, or a sound-signalling device;
- (b) if the pleasure craft is operated after sunset or before sunrise or in periods of restricted visibility, navigation lights that meet the requirements of the Collision Regulations; and (c) a magnetic compass
Translated into Canadian English terms :)
- Lifejacket or Personal Floatation Device
- A Throw Bag with 15 m floating heaving line
- A Pump
- A Whistle
- Light and a Magnetic compass
